2nd Annual Street Festival - World Refugee Day 2015

The 2nd annual STREET FESTIVAL organised by the Future Worlds Center and UNHCR in celebration of the World Refugee Day, took place with memorable success.
Faneromeni square was crowded with cheerful people from the very start of the Festival and reached its maximum capacity a few moments before sunrise while a joyful group of people was dancing non stop. There was an arts & crafts exhibition, info stands by organizations, tasty traditional food prepared by refugees that was clearly enjoyed by everyone, a lively kids corner, music by DJ Claudio that no one could resist dancing to and a perfect closing of the event with a live performance by Rumba Attack.
The Festival was an occasion for all of us to honor the indomitable spirit and courage of the refugee communities living in Cyprus who were forced to flee their homes, to escape war, conflict, persecution, and human rights abuses.
We would like to convey a heartfelt thanks to our hundreds of friends who contributed with their presence to the great success of the Festival. Our special wholehearted gratitude goes to the refugee communities from Palestine, Syria, Cameroon, Iran, Iraq, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, and Egypt for their valuable voluntary contribution and great effort to share their taste and beautiful culture, the wonderful Cypriot artisans to bring their work to the Festival and the 13 participating organisations for their smooth collaboration and support. We thank DJ Claudio and fabulous local band Rumba Attack for their voluntary contribution.
The participant organizations were: Association of Recognized Refugees (Cyprus), Refugee Rights Association, Cyprus Stop Trafficking, Caritas Cyprus-Migrant Centre, Accept – LGBT Cyprus, Office of Cyprus Ombudsman, University of Nicosia, Hope For Children UNCRC Policy Center, Cyprus Red Cross Society, Sophia Foundation for Children, Oasis Project, KISA-Action for Equality, Support, Antiracism.
